Johari West shirts are made from 100% high grade Indonesian cotton and have top stitch detail on the collar, shoulders, and sleeves with monogramed Johari West buttons. The Johari West Hawaiian or tropical style designs are produced using stamps that are approximately 8 to 10 inches’ square that are applied by hand in a repeating pattern. To obtain the specific color, each shirt goes through several hand dying and open air drying techniques that are centuries old and have been passed down through the generations on the islands of Indonesia. Due to the high level of individual hand craftsmanship involved in producing the shirt, the color and print may vary from the main picture. We believe that one of the true advantages of wearing a Johari West shirt is knowing that all shirts are individual with no two shirts being exactly the same.

You might need a size smaller than you would normally wear
The shirt was really nice. I loved the pattern and the colors. The fabric is a nice quality and surprisingly, they are generous with the material. Unfortunately, I had to send it back because it ended up being too big. Normally I wear a 2XL, but this shirt was way too big on me. It's a very pleasant surprise. I plan on buying an XL soon. If you buy these, you might want to buy one size smaller, depending on how large of a person you are/you are buying for. I've got a 52" waist, I'm 5'8" at 267 pounds and the 2XL was too large. It was too long on me and I had way too much extra room in the arms. I was able to stick both arms in a sleeve and still have space, if that gives you an idea. The chest area fit pretty well and I had a bit of extra room in the stomach. They're definitely worth the purchase.

Unique and good quality
I may have an addiction. This is my 25th Johari West shirt of this basic cut, and I have already ordered a few more. The fabric and stitching are decent, and the cut is pretty basic, what really makes these shirts special is the traditional batik dying process. Some of them don't photograph well (dark green/olive especially, often appears brown in the photos), but out of 25 shirts the only one I wound up not liking, looked exactly like the photo (an orangish-red and black pattern). Most shirts in this price range are monocolor, simple prints, or garish (and extremely flimsy) Hawaiian patterns. This style of shirts are extremely common "business casual" in Indonesia and neighboring areas, but generally only the floral patterns are imported (and sold as high end Hawaiian shirts). The geometrics and paisleys of the wax-stamping process (actually a mass-production version of hand-made batik), with the unique mottled patterns of the vat-dying method, are unlike anything commonly found in Western markets. These have become my staple for professional dress, and I expect that to remain true for quite some time.

Color Bled Rendering Two of Them Unwearable
We ordered several Johari West Shirts for an upcoming vacation and were pleased with the look and feel of the shirts, which is why there are two stars. The third star was taken away for the fit being a little on the small size and the last two stars were taken away because upon preparing items to pack for vacation, we placed the unworn shirts (on their own) in a hand-wash cold cycle of the washing machine, and the colors bled, leaving two of the shirts unwearable, and the other two barely passable. They look like they have dirty patches all over them. They are being returned, but unfortunately we are now stuck with 3 pairs of shorts we purchased to go with these shirts and are unable to find anything even remotely close to the style and patterns of the original shirts we purchased. With all of the positive reviews, maybe we got a bad batch, but we are too scared to take a chance on ordering them again with our vacation coming up so soon. We have decided to keep the two barely passable shirts because we just don't have time to do anything different, but we are very disappointed.

Headed For The Dock On The Bay
I now have six of these shirts, but in different colors. While I like Hawaiian shirts, I am at that age where you see too many retired looking guys walking around in hibiscus and plumeria combos. While those shirts do look nice, I like something a bit different and not so "look at me I'm retired and wish I lived in Hawaii". These shirts are unique and I have been complimented on them. The material is comfortable and seems durable. I have washed and dried them a few times and have not seen any color loss.I had some older shirts that I hated to part with, but they were looking a bit long in the tooth and starting to fall apart, so it was necessary to replace them. These fit the bill nicely.I was NOT given these shirts as a discount and paid full pop. You really do have my honest and BIASED opinion. Cheers

These Johari-West shirts are great!
This is the second Johari-West shirt I've purchased, and it is just as nice as the first, and fits just the same as well. These shirts are well made and fit great. To describe the fit, I'm 6' 2" and 250, and the 2XL fits comfortably loose, even after (careful) laundering. Just launder according to the instructions, and there shouldn't be any appreciable shrinkage. I suggest avoiding the dryer altogether if possible. My only complaint about this shirt is the color. In the photo it (Amber) looks like a nice light rust and light gray combination, which is what I wanted, but in reality the colors were much stronger and deeper. It's dark orange with dark gray and black background. I'm thinking that after a year or so it will lighten up to be more like what I wanted, but in the meantime it's still a very nice shirt.

Almost, but not quite
Love the look of these shirts. They have the best looking colors and designs of any print shirts I have found anywhere on in stores or the internet. The only issue is they are smaller than indicated in the sizing chart, and they lack the "tall" feature in the larger sizes making them too short. My waist size should have left another 3-4 inches of space around the middle according to the chart. I could button it easily enough, but it felt tight. They really need a 5XL-TALL (and 4XL-TALL). The bottom of the shirt barely made it below belt level - - Why do clothing makers think large guys are always short and tall guys must be slim? People tend to grow proportionally in both directions - a taller person with the same proportions as someone shorter will be bigger around the middle, too. This isn't Charlie and the Chocolate factory. People don't get stretched taller in a taffy puller. Also - Hawaiian shirts are supposed to hang loose, which means they should add a couple of extra inches all around anyway. - so maybe buy a couple of sizes larger. If not for the sizing problems, this would likely be a five-star product. (though I haven't had a chance to determine their colorfastness and durability)
