Merryhill Mushrooms - Ready Growing Grow Your Own Fresh White Mushroom kit (Single White)

These were easy to start off and grow. 1st crop gave me 18ounces of mushrooms and the 2nd crop gave me 12ounces. The third crop has just started to grow.I am pretty sure I will not get anything like my money back in mushrooms to what you can buy them from in the supermarkets but the fascination of my daughter watching them grow and tending them, and the freshness of the mushrooms to eat makes it worth it as a one off purchase - don't think I could keep on paying out that much hence the 4 stars not 5.

I was quite dubious that these would grow at all. But I needn't have worried, there was an abundant crop, and when I'd picked those, more came along. Altogether I reckon I had about 6 crops from this kit. And they tasted wonderful! The kit came as a plastic box, already filled with soil and mushroom spores (spores? Is that the right word?) so all I had to do was take it out of its wrapper, water it a bit, and off it went. I don't think it would be suitable to buy in advance, as the mushrooms were already just showing their heads when I got it. So if you're buying it as a present for someone, get it as close to the present giving date as possible.

I really like this product for several reasons. It is a useful size and can be put almost anywhere. The container is water-tight, so nothing can leak onto a surface. There is a plastic bag that covers the crop, keeps in the moisture and guards against the deadly mushroom fly. This was a present for someone who wanted to know more about mushrooms. It was well received and made some very interesting moments watching the mushrooms grow. The mushrooms are good to eat, too. Highly recommended.

Bought this as an addition for my mother’s day hamper (something a little different than flowers) but didn’t expect much from it. My mum has now ended up with more mushrooms than the entire family can possibly consume! So easy to grow, just pop the whole tub into a cupboard and that’s pretty much it. She has to pick them regularly to make room for more but it seems to have spurred them on to grow even more.

The kit arrived with mushrooms just appearing on the surface which supported the description of being pre-started. We had 3 lots of mushrooms from the kit, it is lovely to be able to pick them fresh. Just one tip, follow the instructions carefully as for each flush you must remove all mushrooms so as to kick start the next flush. Really good value for money, well packaged.

Received kit o.k. Produced a crop of about a dozen mushrooms, followed the instructions to the letter. This crop then stopped, and didn't grow again. After a few days some more appeared as pinheads, and then covered the whole surface, and have since stayed as this. I was not impressed, and I will not be buying more !!!
