Good small radio that doesnt require a ton of batteries
We live in hurricane prone area. Good little radie that runs on only a few batteries to keep in touch during power outage. Doesnt take up a ton of space

Good Radio
This little radio will do what you'll expect. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the plastic clad. With its higher price I was hoping for something a little heavier.

Best lil radio on earth. needs a belt clip. That's all I'm adding to it.
This radio is awesome. AA means ease of using rechargable batteries. So once you get something to recharge you AA batteries you don't have any more operating cost. That is the beauty of this technology. I love it.The only thing I will add is a belt clip. It's going to be a custom job using an old pocket clip from a broken pocket knife I have laying around.I'd like to carry it every day. Only weighs 5 oz.I'm going to backpack with it because I can charge AA bateries in my solar charger... and did I mention it only weighs 5 oz, has great battery life and provides hours of free entertainment.tuning is snappy and the light lets you know immediately when you have a lock.Get it you will like it.The speaker makes it better than an mp3 player because you can still hear what else is going on around you. It has a headphone jack if you still think you need it.the lanyard can be used to hang the radio on a tree limb and is the right lenth. Just wrap the lanyard around the limb, belt, or something and slide the radio through the hole to hang it up without tying a knot.I have an mp3 player but it is hard to charge in the woods and it cost $300 and the warenty is expired. I don't know what I'd do if I lost it. The Mp3 player doesn't have a speaker either and weighs too much as it is a big 120 GB zune. I like the mp3 but not being able to get a good charge on my solar charger led me to getting this. The speaker in the unit is awesome. Very punchy bass simulation. like tapping a pringle chip top. nice! :) For what it is it is impressive. And you can't beat it for the price. Visit my youtube channel to see a video review. Search for RF-P50 or andrewsheldonreeves.

Decent basic radio, but read the pros and cons...
A serviceable basic AM/FM radio. I'd say the primary use for this is as an emergency battery radio. I'd buy it again even with my 3-star rating but only for use as an emergency radio or maybe for a kid's radio. If I needed a radio for daily listening, I'd spend ten more bucks and get a better one.One could argue the point that 'look at what you're getting for twenty bucks' but I disagree. See below.Pros: 1. Good size. 2. Decent full sound through speaker; not too biased one way or the other. 3. Batteries are easy to get in and out. 4. Battery cover is not flimsy (this is important.) 5. Materials are substantial. i.e. the plastic case housing is not flimsy. 6. The sound on FM in decent earbuds is actually petty good.Cons: 1. Headphone jack is mono. If you use regular stereo earbuds with this radio, you only get sound on one side. Deduct one star for this. I suppose one could find mono earbuds but I've never seen them (haven't looked actually). 2. The wrist strap is useless and only gets in the way. 3. Needs some type of case. I would have paid another $2 for this radio if it came with a case of some type. 4. There is a screw on the back that says "ANTENNA SCREW" but the manual says nothing about it. What the heck is it for? An external antenna connection? Since the manual says nothing, it must therefore be either a secret tuner to access the microwave bands, or is a decoder of CIA or Russian (or both) numbers stations. 5. Ergonomics of the controls are really bad. The on-off-AM-FM selector switch and the tuning knob are small and are somewhat difficult to manipulate for folks with big thumbs (me). I have big ole fat fingers so I have to use a thumbnail to provide enough dexterity to turn the knob. This makes it difficult to tune between closely-spaced stations on the band. Deduct the 2nd star for that. A person with limited use of hands (e.g. senior, infirm, physical challenges) would have a hard time operating this radio. This would not be a good radio for one's grandma. 6. The tuning frequency indicator is not accurate on FM. It is accurate for AM but is off about 10-15 MHz for FM. This is typical for small radios, so, no deduction for that one, although it's annoying.

Great sounding little radio
I just bought this little puppy because we recently found ourselves in a power outage and the only DC radios in the house needed "c" sized batteries, which I never keep on hand. So I started looking for a little radio that would run on a couple of AA's, which I buy in bulk and always have on hand. I admit that since I purchased it for emergency use situations, I have only used it once, when it arrived, to check out the sound. I was very pleased with what I heard. My favorite NPR stations came in crisp and clear. This little guy pulled up these stations with much better reception than either of our counter-top radio/CD players. We live quite a distance from the stations and I am just amazed at how clear they come in. I have not tried it on AM because I never listen to AM radio. The controls are easy to use. I did not read the manual at all and was easily able to manage the radio. The antenna only moves swings up and down and does not swivel. I don't expect this to be a problem because the radio is so small, it's easy to turn it around to achieve the same effect as swiveling the antenna.7/18/14 updateI have been able to use this radio on a couple of occasions during power outages - 1 short and one 3 day long outage. It worked great each time.
